I AM the Lord
Exodus 6:1-9
In
the Armenian Sermon we saw that Moses and the Israelites were in despair. They
felt they were in a trap when Pharaoh was so harsh and stiff about them letting
them go out of
God is a God of communication. He spoke
and He revealed Himself.
2 God says “Continue living and believing because of
what I remember.”
What do we read in verse 4
and 5?
“I also established my
covenant with them to give them the
God remembers the past. God had
made a covenant with Abraham 400 years earlier. Abraham died. God made a
covenant with Isaac. Isaac died. God made another covenant with Jacob. Then
Joseph; then there is new pharaoh. TIME is PASSING. Some were saying God forgot
them this time.
We have short memory. “I made
an agreement with you, God, a long time ago. But that was when things were
going well. Now that things changed in my life, I don’t know, do you remember,
God, that we had an agreement?”
God is saying: “I do not have
a problem with memory. I do remember our agreement and I KEEP MY PROMISIES. DO NOT GIVE UP: Continue living and believing.
God remembers us by showing love and compassion. “I have heard the groaning …” (vs 5). What a
wonderful God who has compassion and love towards us!
Read the Psalms of David. “My
tears have been my food day and night while men say to me all day long, ‘Where
is your God’” (Psalm 42:3)
You can express your feelings
to God and He is ready to listen to you, remember you and show you His
compassion and love.
God has His ways to let us
walk. He did not change the condition of the Israelites in
Do you have days when you
feel your life is at the bottom? You feel down. You want to stop. There, right there
God will touch you. He will remember and act with compassion towards you.
3 God wants Moses and his people to continue and live,
because HE WILL ACT. (6-8)
Three acts:
a- God will act in
Deliverance (6:6)
“I AM the LORD, and I will
bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.” (6:6)
I love God’s statements of
deliverance. His deliverance is not based on his people’s condition. God is
going to act, whether you like it or not.
When I look to Christ and his
deliverance to us from our sins, I see God’s initiation without asking for our
permission. Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected so that everyone will
have an opportunity for salvation. He loved us even when we were not ready to
love Him. God acts. God delivers. God does not wait for our permission. Our
duty is to receive it, to accept it and enjoy it.
“I will free you from being
slaves.” You can be sold to another
slave owner. He could be a better person. That is not the case; God is freeing
us from slavery.
In Psalms 8:3 we read: “When I consider your heavens the work of your
fingers…” Then God opens His palm and “outstretches His arms “(6) There was the nail for our complete salvation and
deliverance.
Do you enjoy God’s outstretched
arms? Do you see the work of God’s fingers on His creation? I was that day a newborn
baby. God’s fingers work.
b- God will act in possession.
Verse 7 “I will take you as my own people. We belong to HIM. We are God’s possession.
There is no one on the earth
not possessed by someone or something. Some are possessed by money, material.
Some are possessed by work or position.
There is no choice. Something
possesses you. If that is case I will prefer to be possessed by God rather than
anything else. And best of all… we belong to each other. “You will be my
people” and “I will be your God.”
c- God will act by
providing for us
Verse 6:8 “And I will bring
you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give Abraham, to Isaac and Jacob.
I will give it to you as a possession”. God PROVIDES. God assures that he will provide for all the
needs.
In one word, God will take
care of them.
In Philp 4:19 Paul is informing the church how God provides. “My God will meet
all your needs according to his gracious riches in Christ Jesus.”
What a wonderful promise from
God!
* Once when I was in Ainjar
ministry, I was worried how we can continue in ministry when expenses where
going up.
It was Saturday. I came home,
and found two gentlemen sitting on the front lawn.
After introducing ourselves, the
man said he is from the
WOW. Suddenly God sent someone
from the sky, literally from the sky.
The man had sent his children
once to Ainjar to sister Hedvig. They had come home completely changed. They had
started praying before meals. They were eating anything which was offered. The
man was very excited by our ministry. He and his wife thought that one day they
should make a big donation to our ministry. And after 40 years the time had come.
They were there for this reason.
God is a provider in HIS
TIME.
God spoke to Moses and the Israelites.
He wanted them to continue in their journey of faith. There will be
difficulties, but God is giving three reasons to continue in living in faith:
A. Continue living and
believing because of who I AM.
B. Continue living and
believing because God will remember
C. Continue living and
believing because God will act- He will deliver and provide.
If you are down today, look,
God is saying I AM THE LORD
GOD ALMIGHTY.
Amen
